Mental health awareness through storytelling & community dialogue

OCT MONTHLY SPOTLIGHT

Rcoz Makes An Impact Across Communities!

Expanding reach and awareness. Creating more conversations.

“I wanna give a shout out to the folks from Rcoz that are here today. They’re a Bay Area non profit focused on South Asian mental health. Thank you for partnering with AFSP and thank you for being there for my community and peers” - Vijay Mehrotra (Keynote Speaker at AFSP Out of the Darkness Walk)

Oct 2025 Events collage

Oct 4 NAMI Walks, SIlicon Valley

From stories of ADHD to anxiety, South Asians at NAMIWalks, Santa Clara opened up like never before. Over 100 visitors reminded us why ending stigma matters and why we must keep talking.

Oct 4 Washington Hospital Community Safety Fair

More than 50 visitors, many South Asian families, opened up about stress, caregiving, and depression. These honest conversations are why our Support Groups and Chalo Baatein Karen sessions are so important.

Oct 16 Santa Clara Unified Family Resource Fair

Over 70 visitors including many South Asian families, students, and educators stopped by our booth to talk about why mental health isn’t rare, it’s real, and it’s ours to talk about. We made great connections with local organizations and opened doors to expand Rcoz programs across Santa Clara schools.

Oct 18 AFSP Out of the Darkness Oakland Community Walk

The Walk was a sobering reminder of lives lost. A standout moment was the keynote by a South Asian speaker, highlighting the stigma and lack of acceptance still faced in our communities, even in the Valley. By showing up and standing together, Rcoz aims to make a real difference and raise awareness before another crisis occurs.

SOCHNE KI BAAT (DID YOU KNOW?)

Since 2022, gender-based violence (GBV) - encompassing family, intimate-partner (IPV), and interpersonal violence has claimed 51 lives in the South Asian American diaspora, including 13 harm doers. These numbers, based on public reporting likely underrepresent the true scale of violence and loss - South Asian SOAR

Loneliness and Desperation: An Accomplished Indian’s Courageous Mental Health Story

By Sruti Ramnath

“She expressed feeling isolated and unsupported, enduring unimaginable abuse and even contemplating suicide.”

Behind her success, Shakti faced abuse, isolation, and the heavy silence around mental health in South Asian communities. Talking with Rcoz gave her the courage to share her story, showing why it’s so important to remove stigma and encourage open conversations. Her journey reminds us that resilience exists even in the darkest moments and that seeking help in whatever form it may be matters.
