Growing up with Mental Illness in the Family

Children experiencing a home life with a parent who is going through mental struggles express a spectrum of feelings of shame, worry, guilt, fear, and confusion about what is happening in the family system. Stress in any one aspect of the family system closely affects the strength of the family system. The healthy parent takes on the burden of not only taking care of the sick parent but also serving as a safe haven for the child. As a result, there is a high risk of caregiver burnout and the healthy parent not realizing they need support of their own.

We are a non-profit with a mission to generate awareness around mental health challenges. We provide a repository of mental health stories that are relatable and uplifting whether one is sharing their story or seeking inspiration in stories of others. In this season of giving, consider donating to us so that we can continue to make a difference in the lives of those who are going through mental struggles. Help us plant the “seed” for realizing, relating, inspiring, and seeking help surrounding mental health struggles.
